    This one’s deceptively simple, but it works. Before getting sucked into emails and notifications, pause for a few deep breaths. It’s like giving your mind a moment to wake up before the world starts demanding its attention. Breathe in for a few seconds to fill your lungs with air, hold your breath for a second, and then exhale all of that air.

    3. Write Down One Intention for the Day

    Setting an intention doesn’t have to be profound or poetic; it can be simple. It can be something small, like “Smile more today” or “Don’t stress about the little things.” I’ve found that setting one intention helps me approach the day with a clearer focus and more positivity.

    4. Step Outside for 5 Minutes

    There’s something wonderful about fresh air—even if it’s just on your front porch or balcony. On busy days, before I get started with work, I like to step out onto my back deck and take in the sights around me. For example, the smell of flowers in the backyard or the sounds the birds make as they fly back and forth between the trees. It’s a tiny way to feel connected to nature and reset my energy.  

    5. Stretch Shoulders While Waiting for Coffee

    We all find ourselves waiting at some point in our day, whether it’s for our coffee to brew or the microwave to beep. Instead of just standing around, I do a quick shoulder or neck stretch. It’s amazing how a small movement can loosen tension built up from sitting for long stretches.

    Connection doesn’t have to be a major commitment. A quick “Hey, thinking of you!” text to a friend can go a long way in boosting both your mood and theirs. Sometimes, these little interactions remind me to appreciate the people in my life. Plus, it helps to know that someone is thinking of you, especially during these times when we might feel disconnected.

    There’s something soothing about setting a soft mood as your day winds down. Sometimes I’ll light a candle or turn on my diffuser with my favourite scent, or I might turn on Spotify to listen to one of my go-to podcasts as I get ready for bed. It’s a simple way to transition from the busyness of the day to a relaxing evening.  

    8. Name 3 Things You’re Grateful For

    Gratitude is like a reset button for your mindset. I like to think about three things I’m thankful for before bed. Some days it’s big stuff, like avoiding traffic, and other days it’s small moments of joy, like the tasty ramen lunch I had earlier.  

    9. Do a 2-Minute Face Massage with Oil or a Moisturizer

    This self-care habit might be my favourite part of my nightly routine. It feels luxurious without taking too much time. I massage my face for two minutes with my moisturizer, and the process is relaxing and leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated.

I learned the secret is to pick one habit to start, something easy and achievable, like taking five deep breaths before bed or stretching for two minutes when I wake up. Small, manageable wins that build momentum.

    Have you ever tried to squeeze in something new to an already jam-packed day? Things don’t always go according to plan when you do, right? This is where habit stacking comes in. Take something you’re already doing and add your new self-care habit on top of it. For example, when you brush your teeth in the morning, use this time as an opportunity to say two quick affirmations in the mirror. Another favourite of mine? Listening to calming music during my commute home. This approach helps break up monotony and reduces stress, while also opening the door to more opportunities to be more mindful and present throughout the day.
