Bird Feeder Activity for Kids

Bird Feeder and Seed

A few weeks ago I came across a post on Fab Haute Mama (fabulous blog I follow, check it out) about a great activity to try with kids.  I took that idea and ran with it!  This weekend Miss O and I picked up an inexpensive bird feeder and some seed to set up a nice little spot for birds to come and have some chow.  Originally, Miss O picked out a beautiful cedar bird house (what can I say, the kid has got good taste) but sticker shock made me put it back.  We settled on a simple but nice plastic and metal feeder that allows birds to feed on three sides and has a tray on the bottom with small holes that allow water to drain out and keep the seed relatively dry.

Concert Review: Outcry Tour 2016

Last week I was fortunate to check out an absolutely amazing concert in Hamilton at the FirstOntario Centre (formerly Copps Coliseum).  OUTCRY was a collective of different church ministries (ex. Elevation Worship) and Christian artists brought together for the purpose of bringing both believers and non believers to Christ.  I went to the concert not knowing quite what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised.  The atmosphere was electric, you could feel the power of hundreds of people gathered together worshiping as one.  FirstOntario Centre isn’t a massive venue but it was full that night (of people and the Holy Spirit).  OUTCRY is touring across 15 North American cities this month and Hamilton was the only Canadian stop.  Based on the success of last week’s concert, I’m sure that the remaining shows on the tour were just as fired up and moving.

What Motherhood Has Taught Me About Patience

Heart

Before having Miss O I thought I was a very patient person.  However,  throw in a toddler with a mind of her own and the patience starts to wane.  Between asking her to put away her toys multiple times before bedtime and trying to catch her to put on her coat before heading out the door, I have to admit that there are times when I don’t play it cool.

Do These 3 Things To Get Your Day Started Right

Bench

The last few months have seen me on a journey of self discovery and living a life filled with conscious decision making and injecting small pleasures into my everyday life.  I enjoy listening to podcasts while driving to and from work which seem to be the only times of the day when I can completely shut off my brain (well in all fairness, to avoid accidents I don’t shut it off completely!) and just exist in the moment.  I’m not thinking about what’s for dinner, laundry that still needs to be done or the big business meeting coming up.  Instead I plug in and listen to a variety of topics.  One of my favourite podcasts (and corresponding blog) is The Lively Show.  The host, Jess Lively shares tips and tricks on how to live with intention.  During an episode from earlier this year she talked about implementing 3 things  into your day that make you feel great and get it started right.  These can be different for everyone but the point is to focus on yourself vs your to do list.  This got me thinking.  What things can I do to put me in the right frame of mind before my day even gets started?  There are a number of things that I can do but I narrowed the list down to 3 things and have been practicing the items on a daily basis.

Quick and Easy Weekday Meal Ideas For Kids

We’re all busy and pressed for time in the kitchen.  As a result, it’s easy to find that you’re at a loss for what to make for dinner.  I usually set aside a few hours on Sunday to make 3 main dishes for the week which usually consist of some kind of protein (ex. beef or chicken) and rice and pasta sides.  Since veggies are very quick and easy to make, I make those on the night of and store leftovers in the fridge for the next day.  Miss O LOVES corn, broccoli and carrots so I usually rotate through these 3 options during the week.  Stay tuned for a more detailed post on meal planning basics.  I love this option because it saves time in the kitchen during the week and ensures my family’s eating healthy vs. something quick that might not always be the best choice (can you say fast food?).

Here are a few ideas of child friendly versions of meals that save time in the kitchen and your kids will (hopefully!) find tasty.
