It’s been a while since I last posted but its for a good reason, I promise. I’ve been hard at work on a few amazing projects and am excited to release the first of many.
If you’ve read my post about side hustles, then you’re aware of the benefits these types of projects offer. Personally, I like the idea of running my own project from start to finish and the creative outlet it offers.
One of the projects I’ve been working on is a subscription box. They’re all the rave right now and after a lot of thought and research, I decided to take the plunge. I’d like to introduce Pampered Post, it’s a self-care subscription box service for moms and moms-to-be! Continue reading
It’s that time of year again ladies. Back to school gear is on sale and you’re thinking about all the lunches you have to pack. After a summer full of trips to the park, travel and weeknight BBQs, it’s time to send your kids back to school.
For some of us, it’s the first time our little ones will be going to school. I don’t know where the time went. It seems like only yesterday Miss O was learning to walk and talk. Now she’s an independent, opinionated 4-year-old who plays soccer and practices ballet on the weekend.
In the weeks leading up to this point, we’ve spent a lot of time talking about school. My one takeaway from our chats? She’s ready to start. I’m a little surprised but she seems unfazed by the changes coming her way. That’s what you want though, right? But I feel a little anxious. My baby’s going to school!! OK, get a grip Milveen.
It’s that feeling that inspired this post. Sending Miss O to school is a new experience — for both of us — with a few unknowns thrown in. Over the years I’ve learned that preparation is important for managing anxiety. You can’t account for everything that can happen but you can prepare yourself and kids for the transition. I have another video to share with you ladies. A few weeks ago, my mom shared this video with me and I loved it. I was going through a particularly rough patch and I found the video extremely encouraging. The words resonated with me because they’re so simple but at the same time, so profound. I want to share it with you in the hopes that it will inspire you during your hard days. Continue reading
Lately the news has been packed with stories of surprise job losses and long-term unemployment. More companies are downsizing or shutting down and their former employees are feeling the pinch.
Last year I joined the ranks of the unemployed when I lost my job after almost 10 years. It was an extremely stressful time because I’d suddenly lost my only source of income. Everything felt so uncertain after that. How was I going to pay my bills? Take care of my daughter? I can’t tell you how many nights I lay awake worrying about what I was going to do.
I didn’t see it back then but losing my job was actually a blessing in disguise. If I hadn’t lost it, I would never have found the opportunities I’ve enjoyed since then. I can honestly say that I’m in a much better place now.
Obviously, getting here didn’t happen over night. It took a lot of work and sacrifice but now I get to live everyday in my passion and purpose.
I want to share my story with you in the hopes that if you’ve your job or you’re interested in pursuing your passion, you’ll be inspired.
The path to single motherhood is different for everyone. Some arrive as a result of divorce or separation, some by choice, while others become widows. But regardless of how you got here, the most important thing to remember is that the relationships you nurture during this time, will carry you through the journey.
I’m not saying this season in life is all doom and gloom. Far from it, I’m sure you can easily come up with several examples of moments of joy and happiness. I see this time as an opportunity to thrive despite what’s going on around you and having a group of women you can turn to for guidance, support and advice — your mom tribe — is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
If you’re still in the early stages of this season, it’s even more important to have women who will be there for you no matter what.
I’ve experienced the value of having a mom tribe and I’m eternally grateful for the women in my life who have been there for me no matter what. But what exactly is a mom tribe and how to you know when you have one? Good questions, let’s dive in. Continue reading
A few months ago, a friend of mine shared this video with me. Now, I want to share it with you because it’s exactly what every woman needs to hear.
It’s a short but powerful video presented by Jon Jorgenson. Jon’s an author, public speaker and spoken word artist. His projects include partnering with organizations to tackle issues men and women face and present things from fresh biblical perspective. Check out his video projects on his YouTube channel and on his website.
What I love about this particular video is how captivating it is. It starts off with powerful reminders of what we easily forget. You know what? You ARE beautiful, smart, funny, kind and unique.
The first time I watched this video, I had to stop what I was doing and pay close attention. It’s not that we as women need a man to tell us these things, it’s more of a reminder of how God sees us. After all, we were wonderfully made by Him (Psalms 139:14). He made us with intention and because of that, we’re who we’re supposed to be, quirks and all.
It doesn’t matter where you are in this season of your life, remember that no matter what happens, God loves you. He’s got you covered through every situation you go through. Yes, you’ll have bad days but he has amazing plans for your life. Believe in his promises to you and that he made you an awesome woman and mother.
I’d love to hear your thoughts after you watch this video. Please share in the comments.
I don’t think it matters how your relationship or marriage ends, the prospect of not spending time with your children every day is a hard pill to swallow for some. Whatever agreement you and your ex settle on, the fact is, your child will have to split their time between two homes.
As hard as it is to accept, there’s a bright side — this new dynamic doesn’t have to be difficult. I know, you’re asking how. The first step is to give yourself time to adjust. If you ex is pushing to make arrangements or if the courts have decided how your kids will split their time, there isn’t much time to adjust. You might have weeks or months, but the point is to use that time to come to terms with the new dynamic.
Know that whether your kids are with you or their dad, they’re safe. I know it’s hard, especially if you’re going through a stressful separation or divorce but it’s important that we, as parents, put our differences aside and do what’s best for our kids.
I’m right there with you and understand how you feel. As I go through the process myself, I’ve learned a few things along the way. Here are eight essentials to help you navigate through the early days of co-parenting. Continue reading
Welcome to Journey To Better, formerly Glitter And Glow Mom. If you’re one of my regular visitors, the biggest changes you’ll notice are the name and tagline. When I started blogging back in 2015, Glitter And Glow Mom was a fun outlet for me to share my adventures and observations as a new mom. But as the blog has grown and the needs of single moms became clearer to me, I felt that the old name just wasn’t doing my content vision any justice. So, I decided it was time for a change!
Journey To Better is geared towards new single moms who are adjusting to their new normal. It’s one of the hardest jobs out there so I want Journey To Better to become a hub for single mothers to come together to support one another and give insights based on their experiences. As a single mom myself, I’ve decided that this is the best time for me to step out in faith and use my experiences to offer encouragement and inspiration to others. Continue reading
There are days when the voice of self doubt seems louder than anything else. Whether you’ve missed out on an opportunity you really wanted or you made a mistake, self doubt creeps in and overshadows everything.
Self doubt only serves to paralyze and stop progress. The more we listen to it, the more we talk ourselves out of moving forward. That’s why we need to break the cycle.
Fortunately, you don’t have to get stuck. Rather than giving in negative thoughts, replace them with positive ones. It helps when you have them at the ready. That way you can immediately substitute a negative thought for a positive, encouraging one.
Here are 60 positive affirmations for you to meditate on. They’ll help reinforce positive thought patterns, keep you moving forward and shake off setbacks. More than anything, they’ll remind you of how awesome you are and what you’re capable of.
